Demi negara...
Yang tercinta,
Dicurahkan bakti penuh setia,
Demi raja...
Yang disanjung tinggi,
Kesetiaan tak berbelah bagi.
MERDEKA! MERDEKA! MERDEKA!
It's 31st of August today, which means it's Malaysia's 50th Independence Day. Which also means holiday to everyone else, not for me~ :(
I just love the smell of freedom. Who doesn't? It's what teenagers also wanted from their parents; freedom. But, human always take things for granted. Once we have it, we forgot how much had been done in order to achieve it. And we forgot to be grateful for what we have.
I am not ashamed to say that I've always been proud to be Malaysians. We might not be USA, the most modern country of all, or EUROPE, the fashion house of the world, or we might not be JAPAN, the most advanced Asian country.
We are Malaysia, we are among the most advanced growing Islamic country of all time.
America has Hollywood, India has Bollywood, England has Harry Potter, Japan has Final Fantasy franchise, Australia has Nicole Kidman, Thailand has Tata Young, Brazil has Ronaldo, Korea has Rain... So, what do we have?
We have:
1. Nasi lemak
2. Teh tarik
3. Multi-racial community that lives in harmony
4. KLCC
5. KLIA
6. Sepang Formula 1
7. Durian
8. Michelle Yeoh
9. P.Ramlee
10. Nicole Ann David
11. Rafflesia
Finally, we have PEACE & UNITY. Now, that is something not every country has.
So, my point is, just be thankful for being a Malaysian cos not everyone has the chance to. If Malaysia is not up to your standard, then maybe you should study/work harder to lead it to stardom.
Remember, freedom comes with a price. Value it or regret later.
**Don't ask what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.**
-John Fitzgerald Kennedy-
Happy 50th Independence Day, Malaysia!
From the bottom of my heart,
Melissa
